Deleted Repo, still being asked to Update

#1

Do I have to delete the key too (I’m using Linux)

Does that guarantee no upgrade to ST4, because given 100 button pushes, I’ll push the wrong one once (Do you want to upgrade ST4 yes/no), and then I’ll loose a day or an afternoon having to downgrade back to ST3 (Maybe less time)

I’m guessing the last update was to update the version that asks you for an update…

Cheers

Hi @Lozminda,

Thanks for reaching out!

If you’d like to disable update checks, see step two of https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/previous_versions.html

Let me know if this helps!

Thanks,
- Dylan

Thanks for reaching out to my reaching out :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(Joined the ST bandwaggon recently, and or I’m a bit slow)

Hi @Lozminda,

Thanks for clarifying!

If you don’t have a Sublime Text license, there’s currently no way to disable the update dialog.
We encourage you to evaluate Sublime Text on the latest version (as it’s got the latest fixes and features).

We hope you enjoy using Sublime Text, and let me know if I can help in any other way - always happy to help!

Thanks,
- Dylan

Ps While I’ve got your ear, this is for me one of the probs with ST3/4/ is this kind of stuff interupts work flow (I appreciate I may be an edge case, and also that I’m not 100% dissaplined) but every month or so something comes up and instead of working I’m sorting out some ST functionality, I’ve posted maybe 100 times on this forum, and have about 60-70% answers. I’m supportive because I code, I see it’s potential, you’re a small team vs Microogle-beh! but I’m not sure I’ve done more work with ST3 than if I’d stayed with Pluma. It’s getting better, but it’s taken 18 months to get better…
I’m sure your numbers paint a different picture (I hope so) but this is the summary of my ST3 experience. If money had been exchanged I’d be less sanguine I’m sure.
Thanks for taking the time to read this

Good luck Lozminda :unicorn: :skull_and_crossbones:

I’m not worried about the dialog, I’m worried about the update. If I accidentally hit yes, will I be updated ?

Ps Interesting use of the word “encourage”

Yes, if you say yes to the update dialog, your copy will be updated to the next build.

As a developer myself, I see the logic of encouraging people to be evaluating the latest version of the software I’m working on, since otherwise they are quite likely to make support requests for things that are already fixed. On the other hand a large part of my job is maintenance and support.

Even though I’ve deleted the repository and key (for linux) ?

If you’re using Linux, then the popup takes you to a download page where you can download the latest version. The only ways to get updated on Linux are to manually install a new tarball, manualy download and update via .deb or similar, or have your package manager use one of the package channels and update for you (which probably happens automagically or something depending on your distro).

So, in the situation where you’re doing an extended evaluation of an older version on Linux and can’t disable the popup because you don’t have a license, the worst case scenario is having to close a tab in your browser.

Ok marvellous. Sometimes updates go out of control, you know how it is ! As long as it’s few button presses before I get updated !

Thank you
