Is it possible to display table of contents for the current markdown document in a side panel? I. e. so that only headlines are shown.
For example, could such a table of contents be in the left panel, the one used for file browsing?

Probably https://packagecontrol.io/packages/Outline. I didn’t use it so I won’t answer any question about that plugin itself.
