Hey guys, new user here. I have had Siblime installed for about a week. Used it a few times with no issues, no all of a sudden it constantly freezes after being open for only a minute or so. I have installed zero plugins and have not really done anything with it other than create a few documents. Running Big Sur 11.6, any help is appreciated.
Constant Freezing on Mac
That means it’s likely caused by a plugin. You can narrow down which one is the cause by disabling them temporarily using the "ignored_packages"
setting.
It must be one that came as part of the default installation? It was literally a clean install lol.
Safe mode starts ST in a freshly installed state every time. If that’s behaving differently to normal mode then clearly that’s not using a clean installation. You can revert to a freshly installed state or simply confirm it’s not fresh by following this: https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/revert.html.
I am telling you, I did nothing other than run the installer, open it and type. Not sure how much cleaner it gets than that :/. I will try the revert anyway to cover bases though. Thanks!
also FWIW I checked the directories when going to revert, and the safe mode data directory where I have no issues is identical to my regular directory with the exception of my user preferences file.
I am also experiencing frequent micro-freezes of Sublime Text on a Mac. I have no packages installed.
I see that this thread is quite old. But still it seems the right place to post for this particular problem.
I have installed Sublime on a new Mac. After a bit of working with it it did not want to start anymore. I did not find any reason for that so I uninstalled and reinstalled it. After that it worked again for a while. In the mid of editing a file I got a “beachball of death”. After waiting for a while with no change, I found this thread. Then I force quit Sublime and started it in safe mode as suggested here. It would come up without problem. Next I exited Sublime again and deleted the data folder as suggested here to reset the installation. I started it again and it would not come up. After a while I force quit again and noted that no new data folder had been created. There was, however the one from safe mode. I deleted that as well and started safe mode again. Now, also the safe mode would not come up! I force quit, and saw that there was a new data folder at least. Then I started safe mode again and - indeed - now it would come up creating the second data folder “Sublime Text (Safe Mode)” again.
So, now I think that something is wrong with the original data folder’s name or location. But what can I do to make it work again?
Apple seems not to care much about opengl anymore and so related apps suffer from their bugs.
Indeed, @bschaaf, thank you for your answer!
Although it feels like a Windows suggestion, I had trouble with finder itself shortly after posting here. That forced me to reboot and since then, things work nicely.
I should have posted earlier that my problem with Sublime has dissolved.
