Configuration Variables

#1

I own a license for an old version of Sublime. I learned the hard way not to update as my license will not work with newer versions. I decided to turn off update check- “no problem” I thought “I’ll just search the config file for ‘update’ and I’m sure it will be in there somewhere”.

No.

Hmm. Support pages.

No, just general information about config files. No wiki, no example config files, no list of config variables, no nothing. Finally after some googling found it on some youtube video.

How is a user meant to know what the config variables are? Are we to guess until we get it right? Why does the default config file not contain all, or at least all major config variables?

Sublmet Text started to display settings in a side-by-side fashion as of build 3124, with commented defaults on the left.

Note: There are still some old unmaintained plugins out in the wild, which do not yet support it, but that’s not within scope or responsibility of the editor.

Additionally, PackageDev provides auto-completion and hover popups as well as goto symbol for available settings.

More recent packages also provide completion information for LSP-json which can if present even provide more fine gained completions for dict/list like values.

Yes I have the side by side, but searching for “update” yields nothing.

Yeah. "update_check": false seems to be one of ST’s hidden settings.

It is normally set by update dialog these days (requires ST4).

PackageDev however ships a completion and hover popup for it and most other hidden settings.
