There is a border around selections, which is visible when using a theme with a bright background, but very hard to see when using a theme with a dark background. Is there a key for modifying the color of this border in tmTheme files?

Yes, there is. Search for selectionBorder.

You’re welcome. No documentation I know of. You’re best of exploring existing themes. Either the files or by using tmtheme-editor.herokuapp.com/ or similar.
