Changing preferences breaks ST3

#1

Nothing crazy going on here… But I can’t open any directories from command line or from Recent. I just get a blank window with the directory name in the top bar.

{ "color_scheme": "Packages/Boxy Theme/schemes/Boxy Ocean.tmTheme", "font_face": "Inconsolata for Powerline", "font_size": 15, "ignored_packages": [ "Vintage" ], "theme": "Boxy Ocean.sublime-theme" }

Pleaseeeee guide me, this is doing my head in.

The first thing I would try is View > Side Bar > Show Side Bar from the menu, in case you’ve closed the sidebar for some reason. A symptom of that would be that opening up a directory shows you an empty window because without the side bar and with no file open, it looks like nothing happened.

I don’t know why it would all of a sudden decide to close the sidebar when I change my preferences? It definitely works… any way I can make it so the sidebar is always open?

The sidebar only shows if there is something to display, I. E. You have “show open files” selected or added a folder.

If I don’t change my preferences the sidebar shows all of the time?

Also the sidebar doesn’t show even if I subl filename.js for example.

Try View -> Side Bar -> Show Open Files.

To be more explicit, the side bar only shows you two things; the list of folders that are currently open (if there are any) and the list of files that are open (if there are any AND you’ve told it that you want it to do that).

When at least one of those conditions are not met, the side bar would effectively be a waste of empty space on the left side of the window, so in that situation it is not displayed and cannot be opened.
