can we have a situation where find and replace can span across several files open within the editor and not the active page only. It will really help save some time especially when making changes to nearly similar files.

Try using the “Find in Files” feature. You can enter a couple of special phrases in the “Where:” box, like <project> or <open files> to apply a find/replace to multiple files.

Just as a quick addition, the … button to the right of the Where: field pops up a menu that will help you add filters such as the above. The page on search and replace in the Unofficial Docs has more information.
