Can't start SublimeText 4 (3 works, macOS)

#1

Hey everyone!

I installed ST4 on my main machine and it worked without issues. Got the same machine in a smaller variant (2015 MBP, 13 inch), same macOS, same ST3, same settings.
Any ideas what might cause this?

I am getting a macOS notification stating the application can’t be started, but the icon isn’t ruled out (as some applications are when not compatible with the OS). Or does running it first require internet connection? Due to my layout, it’s a bit of a hassle if so, but could be done.

Best wishes,
Shu

ST never requires an internet connection. What version of ST have you installed, what version of macOS are you running?

Could you try running it from the command line: https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/command_line.html?

Unfortunately, when I run

echo 'export PATH="/Applications/Sublime Text.app/Contents/SharedSupport/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.bash_profile

then

subl -n

, it’s stated subl cannot be found. I did rename ST3 to “Sublime Text 3” while using the original “Sublime Text” for ST4.

You can just run the command line tool directly: /Applications/Sublime Text.app/Contents/SharedSupport/bin/subl - assuming you’ve installed the app in that directory.

Unfortunately, every attempt to fix this issue has been to no avail until I found the same issue happening with other software that has been within a .zip or .dmg and transferred from another device. It seems like the macOS built in solution for decompressing can have some hiccups with this. To solve the issue, I needed to either unzip, zip again, then unzip again directly on the device that uses the software or extract from .dmg, zip and unzip with a third party zip tool. Weird. But works now.
