I’m experiencing some behaviour that I don’t understand while editing the file below in Sublime Text 3. This is a list of iOS apps purchased that I compiled from email receipts. All lines but the last two are apps that I purchased from the US app store and are all apps. The last two lines were purchased from the ZA store and I have inserted ZA and either App or In App in front of the app names on these lines. I wished to do the same with the first 34 lines so I used Ctrl-Alt to create insertion points at the beginning of each line, intending to type “USApp” at the start of each of those lines. To my surprise, when I hit the tab after typing US, rather than a tab character, the word “Photofile” was inserted. I tried starting with ZA and the same thing happened.

I’ve tried without having multiple insertion points and am seeing other strange things happen. If I type “US” at the start of the first line, pressing tab changes it to “us” and further presses of tab do nothing. But if I type “us” it inserts a tab character when I press tab. If I delete lines 3 through 34 I can type “US” normally on the first line, but placing insertion points at the beginning of lines 1 and 2 again causes “Photofile” to be inserted when I press the tab key.

I’ve never seen an editor behave in this way and can only conclude that I’m unwittingly triggering some functionality I’m not expecting. Can someone explain this to me?
