Can I change the position of the quick panel?

Anyone know of a way to change the position of the quick panel? That is, the drop down list at the top of the window that appears when you use the command palette or “goto” functionality. It’s always in the way and I’d like to move it to the right and change the width, or perhaps the bottom but that seems unlikely. I’ve looked at the theme defs but that doesn’t seem to help me.

Any ideas?

I think the position of the panels is hard coded to appear in the top center of the view that has the focus and it’s not possible to change that. I vaguely recall that there was a feature request for that on the issue tracker or here in the forum, but I can’t seem to find it. That could be poor memory or poor search skills, though.
