Build 2059 won't run on macOS Big Sur 11.6

#1

On two different MacBooks, when I try to run Sublime Merge 2059, I get an OS dialog that says:

“Sublime Merge” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

I turned on Console and I see

ASP: Security policy would not allow process: 7356, /Applications/Sublime Merge.app/Contents/MacOS/sublime_merge

ASP = AppleSecurityPolicy

Did you install the application by moving it using Finder to the Applications directory? Finder has some special behavior to do with quarantining and security, thus using the command line or 3rd party file managers may break things.

I had unzipped it in an iTerm window with unzip, then I used Finder to drag Sublime Merge into the Applications folder.

Just now, I tried double-clicking the zipfile in Finder which launched an Archive Utility to expand Sublime Merge.app, then dragging that app into Applications. It worked! Interesting.

It’s likely that unzip doesn’t preserve the required signatures from us or Apple.

Seems likely. Unzip hasn’t kept up with the times.
