Basic word processing package?

Apologies, as I’m a longtime word (not code) editor and Sublime Text newbie. I have minimal need for HTML bells and whistles, as I mainly work with existing formats done by people much smarter than me.

What package would you recommend for basic keyboard enhancements – typical Word processing stuff like an em dash? If it matters, I work on a Mac. Thank you for your suggestions!!!

Your Mac already has some keyboard “enhancements”.
alt-shift-hyphen does an em-dash — for instance
alt-colon … ellipsis
There are a lot of fairly intuitive typograhical niceties, accents etc.

Much appreciated! I’d tried alt-ctrl-hyphen (read that somewhere). With Word, it’s easy to get lazy about what the keyboard itself can do!
