I typically work with a large window per project with several panes. Opening files with Goto Anything is so convenient that when I want to open a file, I do that from whichever pane I’m in, and it works very well.
The problem is that after I’ve been working for a while, I have many, many open files in each pane, and I usually have views to the same file open in each pane. What gets me into trouble is that if I use Goto Anything and the file I’m looking for is in a tab on the same pane, it switches to that tab instead of opening a new view. If the file is open in a tab of a different pane, however, it creates a new view. After I’ve been working long enough, I wind up having many files open in many different panes. There wind up being so many tabs that it can be difficult to find what I’m looking for, so I wind up opening up more tabs with Goto Anything, and the problem gets worse.
I realize that this is my own doing, but I’m wondering of there are any tools to help manage this? It would be nice if there was a way to have Goto Anything move an existing view to the current pane rather than open a new one. Or if there’s a way to help clean this up after it happens, that would be convenient as well.
