Annoying automatic replacement of a space with a period

When I enter two spaces after a line of text, the first space is replaced by a period. How can I turn this off?

What is your file format? You can find it down at the bottom right hand of your window.

Are you using a Mac? If so, could be the text replacement feature (https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/mac-help/mh35735/mac)

(Assuming you are on a Mac)

In Keyboard:

Click Edit button for Input Sources

Deselect the Add period with double-space:
