Add margin to document body

I’ve always thought that text sits too close to the left edge of the document window. Is there a way to increase this? Note, I’m not talking about the width of the gutter, I am aware you can increase the gutter width. I’m looking to increase the space between the gutter and the document.

In the image below I want to increase the space between the right gutter wall and the XML tags.

Is there a way to do this?

a work-around that i use is to use a scheme/theme where the gutter colour is the same as the background.

if a proper solution exists, i would like to know about it as well.
