About the team/company

#1

I’ve been a sublimetext user for over a decade, and now a sublime merge user too. But it occurs to me that I know almost nothing about the team/company behind it, I’m definitively curious. I couldn’t find an about page or anything like that, so I’m wondering:

  • How old is sublime hq?
  • How big is the team?
  • How are you funded? (I’m guessing bootstrapped)
  • What are your longer term ambitions for the products and company? (nbd if nothing comes to mind for this tho)

Anyways thanks for humoring my request

I am not a developer at SHQ and a company folk can better answer your questions, but I have been using Sublime Text & Merge for the better part of 4 years now and I also used to be quite active in this forum & the discord channel (now a somewhat silent spectator), but I can take a shot at some of these questions

How old is sublime hq?

The oldest article on the SHQ blog (https://www.sublimetext.com/blog/articles/introduction) seems to date back to November, 2007, so maybe that’s the timeline around which Jon started SHQ. So maybe roughly ~ 17 years.

How big is the team?

SHQ is based in Woollahra, Sydney (Australia) and I believe has a current team strength of 7 (If my facts are not wrong)

Jon is the main person who runs the company & looks after day to day activities I suppose. He used to interact a lot during the early stages of the products, but now we don’t see him at all in either the forum or discord server.

Folks working on Sublime Text:

  1. Benjamin Schaaf
  2. Valerie
  3. Tim

Folks working on Sublime Merge:

  1. Dylan Johnston
  2. David W

Folks working on sales:

  1. Kari

How are you funded? (I’m guessing bootstrapped)

I assume the biggest part of their revenue is through licensing of their software. That’s what their entire business model is based on.

What are your longer term ambitions for the products and company? (nbd if nothing comes to mind for this tho)

I’d be happy to know this as well, because SHQ never usually reveals future goals of the product or how the company is faring behind the scenes.
