Aborting commit due to empty commit message

I can’t seem to get the commit message editor to start. Any ideas where to start looking?

Mac Sublime merge dev build 1111 Sublime Text dev 3203

The commit message can be entered directly in the changes window. There is a placeholder for it (‘Commit Message’) hidden in plain sight on the line above the commit button and your git username.
– took me some time to find it too.
