We're replacing PackageControl.io

You may have received an update message about Package Control 4.2.0. A big part of that update is that we’ve built a new crawler, that looks for all packages and delivers updates to your Sublime Text installation. Unless you’re a nerd (and if you’re reading this… I guess that means you are :wink:) that’s boring tech. It’s actually really cool though, much more performant and reliable than the old one.

So, this change coming to the Package Control package in your ST installation is mostly invisible. What’s not, is that we’ll eventually also completely replace the Package Control website at https://packagecontrol.io. The new one is already live and ready to go. In our very biased opinion it’s already a lot better (it has dark mode, what more’s there to say!?), and we have more plans for the future of it.

So, if you’re looking for packages, or information on any package, head over to https://packages.sublimetext.io.

This is a big change, it won’t happen overnight and we’re not done yet. But we’re excited to get everyone on board, get your feedback, and together continue to build and ship cool packages to all Sublime users out there.

great stuff @braver and the ST team. Fantastic to see a new and centrally maintained version of Package Control.

Love the new Package Control R website. It would be great if it surfaced the one-line description for the package to the card on the frontpage so you didn’t have to drill down to see what each package is or does.

PS: Do we still need to include this channel in order to satisfy Py 3.8 dependencies, or does the new one replace it?

This is great news! I’ve only been an ST user for a couple of years but the pain around the old solution has been obvious from the get-go, it’s great to know this won’t be an issue going into the future. Bravo!
