Sublime Text 3 Crashes on Startup

#1

Hello everyone! I’m kind of at the end of my rope here. I have been on Windows 10 and Sublime was working great. However, recently Microsoft upgraded me to the Anniversary edition. A couple of days later when I tried booting the program for the first time since the update, nothing happened. No error messages or anything. Thankfully it did leave a dump of the crash in the folder which I’ll leave below.

I’ve tried so many things to get it working. I’ve uninstalled it deleted what was in appdata as well as used the program, Everything, to hunt down and remove every related file to Sublime Text. Reinstalling it did nothing. I’ve tried the portable version. Still nothing. I’ve tried the 32 bit version. I’ve tried all of the above with the dev versions. I’ve even tried older versions of Sublime Text 3. Also, yes, I have tried rebooting. The only thing that does work is Sublime Text 2. However, I really rather use the supported version and the version I paid for haha.

If anyone else has any other ideas I’d be happy to hear them. As stated earlier I’m running Windows 10 Anniversary. My PC is a Surface Book with an i5 processor and 8GB of RAM. Thanks!

Hey I have the same problem! Have you managed to sort it out?

Never did unfortunately. I have been using Atom and wish I could go back. I probably could do something like reformat, but I’m not about to do that for one program.

I hear you, no way I’m reformatting when I have no idea what caused this in the first place.

I paid for ST and I’ve been a fan since day dot. I’d love to continue using it but it looks like this is a dead end and I’ll have to switch too, unless someone fixes this issue.

I found the solution (WOMM, YMMV)! Googled around and came across something on SO - can’t remember where… but then I found it mentioned here too: Won't open

Just swap the 2 for a 3 and your good: %APPDATA%\Sublime Text 3

Back it all up somewhere, now delete EVERYTHING.

Start Sublime and you’re back in business. Proceed to reinstall the packages you care about.

On Mac I deleted the Application auto session file and that seemed to have resolved the issue crashing the application on startup.
On Mac:
cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/Sublime\ Text\ 3/Local
ls -lh or ls -ln
rm Auto Save Session.sublime_session

I’ve been getting a regular crash too Windows 10 x64 - Regular Crash

I’m not sure if it’s the same but I get it when opening a workspace and I get a bunch of “this file has changed” dialogs. If I start closing those (with ok, or cancel) then it crashes on the 4th/5th one. To fix it I have to delete the .sublime-project and .sublime-workspace file and re-create them.

Quooston:
Glad you got it working, quooston! Unfortunately, that was something I’ve tried a long time ago (And just tried again to be sure). It didn’t work. When I was trying to solve the problem awhile back I even used a program called Everything to hunt down every little thing Sublime Text related and deleted it after I uninstalled. That didn’t work.

Vishwasc:
I purged everything related to Sublime Text before, this includes any .sublime_session files. Just to be sure I searched for any files with that extension and I couldn’t find any. Thanks for the help though.

IPWright83:
Sadly it’s not quite the same problem. Sublime Text 3 won’t even start period, without any error messages even. All that is left behind after trying to open it is a file that has a dump of the crash which I gave an example of in my original post. No .sublime-project and .sublime-workspace files exist as I deleted them a long time ago trying to fix the problem. Thanks for the reply.
