Save All has speeded up a quite a bit since Ubuntu 24.04.4 reinstallation

#1

On web dev projects I’d have quite a few (~ 20) HTML files open as well as big .js and .css files.

After running a Save All, I used to see the saving process advance slowly through my edited tabs through the changing of the pencil icon to an x at the top right corner of the tabs.

Lately a fresh system install was done for my Ubuntu 24.04.4 op system.

Now the Save All is near instantaneous - this despite having my op sys running on an external hard drive. (SSDs are sure getting pricey, folks !)

I was wondering why this is so.

At present I run ST 4200. As far as I know, there was no change to the ST version since before I reinstalled my Ubuntu.

I admit that I have seen other benefits to my PC performance since the reinstall, especially to the stability of the windows manager.

Saving speed of many files significantly depends on size of ST’s session file as it persists it to disk between each file save operation. A new setup likely starts with a smaller session file.

I’ll monitor this as I go on.

Even now, the session file is quite large at 304 kB.

Looking through it, I am shocked to see that it’s keeping records of changes to files that I recently made. In fact MOST of the session file is a record of recent edits to projects.

At this rate the session file will be jammed in weeks.

What do I do to stop this senseless retention of old edits ? If rollback is needed I can use Git.

There’s a system design error in the retention of old edits in a session file - which wouldn’t be the place for such things anyhow.

Sublime Text only keeps undo history of open files, and that history is limited to 128kB per file. My many years old session is only 434kB.

Glad to hear it.

I’ll have to keep an eye on this.
