QUESTION: what is the "/*" in front of every file on folders pane?

as the title says, there seems to those two characters on every file, regardless of file extension. I just upgraded from 2 to 3 and after researching online, can’t come up with an answer. anyone have a clue?

File Icons change to asterisk
