Pin tabs

I would like to see the ability to pin tabs and prevent them from closing

I’d also like the ability to pin tabs so you can’t close them. Also maybe shrink them as well!

I usually have my first tab of a project a TODO tab using the Plaintasks package. Having it as large as the other tabs makes it get in the way sometimes. Same with another tab I have being a sort of scratch pad where I can move code out to a temporary holding place.

+100! I always have a few tabs used to take some notes, it would be great to have them pinned! I hope someone will work on that soon.

But there is a plugin!

Take a look at this awesome one: (ST3) TabsExtra :geek:

yeah, that would be a very cool feature! just like chrome does, pin tab is very useful, and I think it has to be shrinked like in chrome when being pinned.

just hope the developer of sublime could think about it seriously, or somebody can create a plugin for this functionality.

LockTab is available in the package control: a shortcut to put the tab into a “locked” state, tab can’t be closed (dialog optional) until unlocked, no visual tab shrinking/reordering.

Locking is nice… but to shrink them too, would be nicer.

Hi!

Don’t want to ruin everything, but: why would you want to pin some tab

Do you know the goto anything? try: ctrl+p.

Something important to know: there is an editor that do not use tabs: (zeed)[http://zedapp.org]

i recommend reading this page: why did they create zed

+1 for it to be a native feature that would display the tab small like in a browser.

I’ve tried https://packagecontrol.io/packages/TabsExtra but it closes the tab on the second run of close other tabs.

I found that https://packagecontrol.io/packages/LockTab doesn’t have this issue and is more customisable.

I agree that it would be better served as a native feature as not all close commands can be intercepted. For instance, clicking a tab x button will close the tab no matter what you do. It is why TabsExtra only prevents closure on bulk closes.

This is because you didn’t enable the “persistent” option which is well documented: https://facelessuser.github.io/TabsExtra/#sticky-tabs.

Opps, thanks and sorry for not noticing that.
