Improved integration with AI CLI tools?

#1

I would love to see some more progress on what is still a great editor. At a minimum a first party terminal window with tight integration to support tools like Claude code would be great. Terminous works well but it is not part of the editor and lacks deep integration.

Is there any hope we will see new releases to Sublime Text/Merge soon? Not much on the blog or Twitter/X so no real insights how how to ensure relevance as the world is changing.

Thanks!

Development is still in progress and private builds with plugin ecosystem running on recent python versions are available via discord.

Both, integrated terminal support and chat UI for LLMs however isn’t on the road-map according to last developer statements. ST has always been a simple and fast code editor not chaising all the hypes and this still seems to be the focus.

I would not agree that AI is a hype but it does go down some rabbit holes. As I have written before I view Subl Text as one cog in a desktop Swiss watch. Claudette interface is already as a plugin but it is on plugin interpretation and to be Mult i Agent independent you have to think about how to let various ecosystems intercommunicate by desktop protocols. I have found such a way but I was flagged often as being off topic so no more on straying OT. As one example Subl Text snippets can be used as context recollections for Tasks since Claude often loses memory between Tasks which is wasteful. Siloes. I have evolved what I call my AI Shuttle Protocol where the Shuttle despatched to AI is populated from Subl created Rules and Context and Tasks. You have to think out of the “text” box. Subl only goes so far before you need to team with other “cogs” in your desktop engine. I insist that rendering be done at the Edge rather than server. This saves on energy and costs but the emphasis is then on User to render local images - for example. Think of sovereignty. And try this: Add sentence in your next Claude task “Claude, comply with Shannon’s Law of Information Theory” and see what happens - as one Rule. That is surely off topic.

Thanks for the response, I get that and to a degree appreciate it. I think the terminal however is something that is generally useful for almost all users especially developers which I imagine are a large quantity of the users.

Glad to hear it is under development, it could be worth advertising that so that when folks are considering where to put their money they see some activity.

So … for example … staying with terminal model … could be a Claude browser Task … whilst you are in this browser session … would it be handy to launch or view a Subl snippet containg Claude context by hitting just three keys? Linking Claude browser session to Subl. I should add that in my case this is Ubuntu only but there are similar addon “cogs” for Windows and Mac.
