Extraneous app icon on app switcher and dock

#1

Whenever I open ST4 on my Mac, it shows two icons in the Dock and in the app switcher, and the one in the Dock bounces for about 60 seconds after opening (although clicking on it does nothing).

Indeed in the Mac Activity Monitor, there are two “Sublime Text” processes running. However, only one of them corresponds to the app where I’m doing my code-editing.

If I force-quit one of the instances from the Activity Monitor, ST shows this message:

“plugin_host-3.3 has exited unexpectedly, some plugin functionality won’t be available until Sublime Text has been restarted”

Any ideas how I might fix this annoyance?

Info:
Sublime Text Build 4126
MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021)
M1 Pro chip
macOS Monterey 12.5.1

How are you launching ST? Are you perhaps using some 3rd party launcher?

Thanks for the reply.

I always launch Sublime either from Alfred (kinda like Spotlight) or via the subl terminal shortcut. Same behavior in both cases.

I just now tested it by opening it directly from the Applications folder: same behavior

Does it happen in safe mode?

No such problem when opening it in safe mode. Just one app icon and one process in the Activity Monitor.

Sounds like you have a plugin that’s not working correctly on macOS. Specifically a plugin that attempts to run the ST cli but isn’t aware that on macOS and Windows it needs to run the subl executable; not the sublime_text one. I believe a Latex or Markdown related plugin is commonly the culprit.

bschaff, you were right. I uninstalled all my plugins and now it works perfectly. I’ll reinstall the ones I actually need one by one and hopefully find which was the culprit.

I really appreciate your help on this!
