Coloring text

Is there any plugin that would let me color selected text. Like in Microsoft Word?

For example: Ctrl + R = Red

How to color arbitrary text selections?

I'm hoping there's a plugin kicking around for this.. Just wanting to be able to highlight some text, hit a button/shortcut/menu and have the highlighted text's color be permanently changed to that. You know, like in Microsoft Word
