Can Phantoms "hide", "cover", or "overlay" the underlying text?

#1

With Phantoms you can use 3 layout types:

  • inline
  • below
  • block

Is there any way to “cover” or “hide” the region of the phantom?

The layouts above displace the content which is not ideal for my use-case.

Except if you need more than one at a time, in this case popup would be the way to go, I do not think phantom can be floating “above” the text

What's the safest way to temporarily replace view content?

Thanks. I need more that one, so a popup wouldn’t work.

You could try folding the area you want to hide, but you won’t get rid of the fold icon there and it may not be applicable for all situations (particularly multi-line).

Thanks. No that wouldn’t do. Overlays would be nice useful feature.
