ST3 3010 can't modify and change default preference

#1

ST3 build 3010 + Ubuntu 12.04 X86_64 + Unity

I don’t know why I couldn’t modify “preferences->settings-default”.

I could with ST2.

Because you are not supposed to do so.
Any change that you made in default config files are going to be overwritten on next update.

one way I used to edit my preferences with st2 was to open the defaults, copy out the default into my user prefs file and change the default. now that seems to not work, so how can we discover which options are available to change? same goes for snippets, which I used to find in the packages folder, copy over to my user, and amend as I like. anyone know how I can do this?

Thank you all for the replies.

There are too many changes between ST2 and ST3. The document is not enough.

Place your settings in the file “User/Preferences.sublime-settings”, which overrides the default settings.

This still works. You can open the default settings, but just can’t modify it (but copy it and then paste into your user settings).
At least I can still open Settings - Default, Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, Open Settings - User, Ctrl+P under Windows.
