Settings Window Keeps Closing On Opening

#1

Hi all,

I’m fairly new to Sublime Text 3 (as in two days ago), and I have encountered an issue. I have installed multiple packages and are loving them. However, I went to enter the settings for a particular package, and when I clicked on the settings button the window appeared for a second, then disappeared. At first, I thought it was just that individual package, however, when I clicked on the main Sublime settings button under preferences, the window also appeared for a moment, then disappeared. I did some research and found that no one has had this issue. I did a couple of things on my own;

I restarted my computer, restarted Sublime, uninstalled the package that wasn’t working and re-installed it, I disabled my anti-virus in hopes that it was blocking the windows and restarted my computer again.

I am running windows 10 64 bit.
Sublime Text 3 (most up to date version)

Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Is it just the settings window that closes when it opens or Sublime as a whole?

The command that opens settings creates a new split window with default settings on the left and your user preferences on the right, and then sets things up so that if either of those two files is closed, the window is closed as well.

As such, one potential suspect is a package or plugin that you have installed that may be aggressively trying to close files closing one of the two settings files, making the whole window close.

Thanks for the reply,

Just the settings window. Let me link a gif as to what happens.

There is a reason this happens and I found out why a while back… If a settings window opens and only 1 group is available, then the entire window is closed because code exists to make sure both groups, and both files are open - if 1 is closed then both close…

Something, a plugin maybe, or a missing file… is closing one of the files being opened causing the issue.

Note: Since you are going to settings - make sure these files exist:
%AppData%/Sublime Text 3/Packages/Default/Preferences.sublime-settings
%AppData%/Sublime Text 3/Packages/User/Preferences.sublime-settings

The Default one may not exist, and that is ok in most cases because most people don’t extract the default folder - it should be loaded from the installed packages in C:\ or in the appdata … Installed Packages folder… ( It’s either there or in the Sublime text install dir )… The paths above will work on Windows by pasting them into explorer.

If you have to create a file in the User folder, set the default contents to:

{

}

and for the Default directory:

// Place your settings in the file "Packages/User/Preferences.sublime-settings",
// which overrides the settings in here.
//
// Settings may also be placed in syntax-specific setting files, for
// example, in Packages/User/Python.sublime-settings for python files.
